Wizards win preseason home opener, despite Arenas faking injury
The Wizards win another game over one of last years playoff team this preseason with a strong contribution from John Wall who had 19 points, 7 assist, with 5 turnovers.
But that is not the story, Gilbert Arenas who didn't play because he said he had a sore knee after the game said he was faking his injury to give Nick Young a chance to play.
"I told [Young] I'd sacrifice playing tonight so he can get some time in because I know he's kind of frustrated he's not getting a chance to crack the [small forward] position, especially since we're going three guards," Arenas said Tuesday, smiling. "So I told him I'll go and fake an injury or say something's wrong with me so you can start."
The problem I have with this is that again this preseason Arenas is making it all about him. He could have kept his mouth shut and kept this confidential, but he chose to be selfish and make sure everyone in the media knew what a good guy he was. Some things should just be left unsaid, and this act is wearing thin.
Coach Flip Saunders said Gilbert was fined Wednesday for an undisclosed amount by the team.
Nick Young made a strong contribution in his opportunity with 24 points, on 10-14 shooting, and was 4-7 from 3 point range.
