The Washington Nationals managed to pull off a big win against the visiting Padres in the first of a two-game series.
Ian Desmond hit a two-run double and rookie phenom Bryce Harper chalked up his first Major League Home Run in his career as they defeated San Diego 8 - 5.
This was a game that saw Washington lose a 4-1 lead before taking the lead back for good in the sixth inning. The Nats were behind 5-4 when they rallied against Padres reliever, Mike Mikolas.
All signs point towards the Nationals being for real this year. But in years past, they've started strong right out of the gate only to flounder and wind up battling for worst in the division. Let's hope that they've got the ship righted, and they can continue producing young talent from the farm system
Another bright spot, Bryce Harper avoided breaking a bat into his head and requiring any new stitches, so that's definitely movement in the right direction for him.
