Apparently $30 Million.
That is how much State and local jurisdictions are contributing to Dan Snyder’s Office Space in Ashburn.
And in return?
“Virginia considers the Redskins our team,” McDonnell said. “The team is based here. The team trains here. The players live here. Virginians root for the Redskins on the field, and off the field the team contributes greatly to the economy and culture of the Commonwealth. Virginia is committed to keeping the Redskins right here in our state for years to come, and today we’ve taken a significant step towards accomplishing that goal. ”
Yup, it's all about Jobs and Money.
You see, when the Skins move training camp to Richmond starting in 2013, they will contribute even more to the economy in the state of Virginia by either fixing up venues down there and or building new ones.
That means more jobs, more tax revenue and with a great fan base in the area and nearby NC, the state of Virginia and the City of Richmond can look forward to thousands of fans traveling to the area.
This is actually a good move for everyone, except die-hard fans in the northern VA area such as myself. It now means instead of traveling minutes to Redskins Park, we now have to drive hours.
But hey, everyone else just increased fan accessibility and revenue by a couple thousand percent, so GO TEAM!
And what is the natural offshoot to this a couple years from now?
Well, if Dan helps build up a local stadium or two down there, I'd be willing to bet that one might even see an exhibition game or inter team scrimmage or two.
Of course, he will have to build a specialized Redneck Tailgate Zone - Way out of the way out back - to accommodate all the new locals who want to camp out and party!
