Caps drop opener to Thrashers
2 1/2 minutes into the game when Ondrej Pavelec (Thrasher's goalie) suddenly fell over backward during a stoppage. He was treated for about 10 minutes on the ice before being wheeled off on a stretcher. He was taken to a local hospital, where preliminary test were negative and Pavelec regained consciousness.
The Thrashers battled back to beat the Caps 4-2. The Caps started the season out a goal by Brooks Laich early in the first, but 4 minutes later gave up a goal by E. Kane, who also scored on a penalty shot in the 2nd.
Caps will be facing questions on their defense all season were out played in that aspect of the game tonight. The shots were even in the game, with the Caps only getting off 15 shots in the first two period, and when they were behind in the 3rd piled up 16.
Not to worry though, it is the first game of the season and the Caps really haven't fully gotten into game shape. It's a long season, lets hope we can start playing some real hard nose defense and not just try to outscore everyone this year on the way to the cup.
