Caps started their home opener a little slow on Saturday night, but warmed up to dominate the New Jersey Devils, 7-2. Caps showed their offensive firepower in every way tonight, scoring in every possible way: even strength, penalty shot, shorthanded, and on the power play.
Alex Ovechkin lead the scoring with two goals and an assist, with young defenseman John Carlson adding a goal and two assist. They also got a strong performance from Michal Neuvirth with 31 saves.
Before the game, banners comemorating Washington's first Presidents' Trophy (form most points) and third straight Southeast Division Championship were lowered from the rafters. They have a bigger goal this season, so this home win hopefully was a sign of things to come, and definitely a better outcome than there loss last night in Atlanta.
